$83m from the World Bank in Support of the Sudanese Health System

The acting Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Ibrahim, announced a grant from the World Bank through UNICEF and World Health Organization, estimated at $83 million, allocated to strengthening the health system, especially health care, by focusing on maternal and child health and maintaining the health system in rural hospitals and health care centres.

The Minister said in a press statement on Wednesday, following his meeting via Zoom technology with the Regional Director of UNICEF, Adele Khodr, that the meeting discussed joint arrangements between the Government of Sudan, represented by the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF, to establish joint executive mechanisms.

Dr. Haitham added that UNICEF had gained partners’ confidence in financing Sudan through the World Bank projects, global support, and the Global Vaccine Alliance in more than $200 million, calling for strengthening coordination to make the most of the grants provided. The great capabilities and support provided by UNICEF to stand up for the arrangements made regarding supply and the implementation of plans.
