WHO Regional Director Praises the Performance of Sudanese Health Sector

The Federal Minister of Health, Dr Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, stated that the epidemiological situation is stable in the Red Sea State, where no cholera cases have been recorded in the isolation centres in Port Sudan. He noted that the visit of the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr Hanan Balkhi, and her meeting with the ministry’s leadership, her inspection of the Public Health Laboratory, the Blood Bank, the Children’s Hospital, and the Medical Supplies Fund, as well as her on-site visit to health facilities, where she ensured the continuity of support for Sudan and praised the significant role of health personnel and their endurance under the pressure of the ongoing war in the country. The Minister commended the support provided by the World Health Organization to the Institute of Public Health. During the field visit of the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, accompanied by the Governor of the Red Sea State, Major General (Retired) Mustafa Mohammed Noor, today, the Minister said that there was a heavy burden on health institutions due to the ongoing war, resulting in the breakdown of many medical devices. He noted significant pressure on government hospitals and health centres, adding that the Children’s Hospital in Port Sudan receives more than four thousand boys and girls monthly.
