President of South Sudan Receives Deputy Head of Sovereignty Council

Today, President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit received the Deputy Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar Eyre, at the presidential palace in Juba in the presence of Ambassador Jamal Malik, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Sudanese Embassy in Juba, as well as representatives from the South Sudanese government, the Presidential Security Affairs Advisor General Tut Qalwak, and the Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in various fields, and consultations on regional issues of mutual interest.

The Deputy Head of the Sovereignty Council stated in a press statement that the meeting addressed the security, humanitarian, and economic situations in Sudan, the repercussions of the war on the economic institutions in both countries, and the importance of opening the borders between them.

The Deputy Head of the Sovereignty Council also revealed an upcoming summit between the Head of the Sovereignty Council and the President of South Sudan after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The Presidential Security Affairs Advisor, Tut Qalwak, stated in a press statement that the President of South Sudan received a comprehensive briefing from the Deputy Head of the Sovereignty Council on the developments in Sudan and the repercussions of the war.

He emphasised his country’s full commitment to achieving security, peace, and stability in Sudan and its serious efforts to solve the current crisis that negatively affects South Sudan.

Tut Qalwak added that the meeting discussed the oil pipeline between South Sudan and the Red Sea and the need to expedite the repair of engineering faults so that the pipeline can resume service as soon as possible.
