Five Years Down the Line… Deceit and Destruction

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sadiq Ali

Translated by: Ramadan Ahmed

What are the conclusions five years after the change on 11 April 2019?

The country that succeeded in stopping the war in South Sudan in that year and began mediating between the factions in the Central African Republic is now caught up in its own war. This is due to the political impasse and a reckless agenda that has caused division in everything and led the country into the unknown. This was expressed by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok in his statement on 30 June 2021 (“To be or not to be”). In 2023, the paramilitary forces engaged in unprecedented blackmail (“This or the Deluge”), leading to a destructive war.

The country that hosted the largest number of refugees globally without significant international assistance is now one of the most displaced regions in the world, with people fleeing internally and to neighbouring countries.

The country known for its tolerance and citizenship, which witnessed significant consensus in the national dialogue, is now a scene of the ugliest crimes and violations in modern and ancient human history, manifesting the worst forms of exploitation by foreigners and Arab diaspora, evidence of genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, murder, looting, rape, and kidnapping of women and girls, all of which are perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

After five years, the political and social change forces have fragmented into more than 15 factions and groups, each claiming to represent the political scene and speaking in its name.

None can call for a referendum or elections or at least align with the people in their suffering and grief. All of them are without rules and without a vision.

After five years, some activists hid in a small cart a few hours before the outbreak of war on 15 April 2023 for unmonitored talks! After a year of hiding behind a “neutral” agenda in words while supporting the militias in deeds and management, they are now scattered without a dignified political stance, sending some condemnation to save face. It is the ordeal of transitional exclusion.

A New Point and Line

The country they wanted to fragment and dismantle its main forces, conspiring against it through fake formations and names without rules, is now more robust – by the grace of God – through national alignment, cohesion, and awareness of threats, risks, and challenges. The army they wanted to dismantle is now more robust, supported by more than 5 million resistant citizens and unprecedented widespread solidarity.

It is a battle of sorting out positions imposed on the nation, and the militia leader called on the morning of 15 April 2023 (“Al-Burhan and the army leaders are besieged and must surrender themselves”)! Today, Hamidti is outside the country and outside the scene, turned into a tool of intimidation.

A New Point and Line

11 April 2019 was a moment of change.

Understanding its reasons, no matter the interferences and interpretations, and turning that page for a new beginning from where it ended. But because some deceptive leaders’ hearts were not pure, we have ended up in this historical dilemma.

It is shameful not to learn from events and facts that are clear before us.

What is heartening is that society is forming new convictions and greater awareness. Unless the political, social, and civil forces learn, they will find themselves in the corners of oblivion.
