Undersecretary of Livestock Ministry to Almohagig: Livestock Export Rates During the War period were the Highest for the Previous Four Years

A Sudanese official said on Tuesday that livestock exports were sustained during the war period despite the many obstacles facing exports.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Livestock, Hassan Al-Toum, revealed that an estimated 5 million heads of livestock were exported during the war, which lasted for a year.

Al-Toum explained, in a statement to Almohagig, that livestock exports exceeded the average four years before the outbreak of the war, which was sparked by the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces on April 5, 2023.

He pointed out that no exports were returned due to immunodeficiency or any other reason during the past year despite the limited time and significant challenges facing exports.

Al-Toum pointed to the role played by exporters who endured difficulties and security breaches and risked their lives and money to continue exporting.

He added, “We truly value the role of exporters in this success.”

He confirmed a plan to increase exports to reach ten million heads in 2028.”

Stating, “We have begun to rehabilitate quarries, especially the Kassala and Gedaref quarries,” pointing out that there are requests to certify more quarries. In several states.

Sudan has (102) million heads of livestock, moving in natural pastures, with an estimated area of (118) million acres.
