The meeting organized by the French organisation (ProMediation) for what it called “leaders and factions of civil political forces, civil society organisations and activists” who participated in the Paris conference last week, concluded its work yesterday.
Information obtained by Almohagig revealed that the meeting was closed and was held at a resort in the Swiss city of Montreux, far from the capital, Geneva.
It is reported that the meeting included several political components that participated in the Paris conference on April 15 and that the closed meeting lasted for three days (from April 17 to 21).
The French organisation (ProMediation), which supervised the meeting, has a long record of close cooperation with French external action institutions and has extensive activity in the countries of the West African Sahel. It had also previously organised a workshop in Cairo for some Sudanese parties, but it was unsuccessful.
The Swiss meeting, according to sources who participated in it, aimed to bring viewpoints closer between the Sudanese political components in order to find political solutions to the current crisis. The sources described that the meeting was not originally intended to deliberate on issues to arrive at specific recommendations but rather to seek to soften positions, find common ground, and create a positive atmosphere between political forces with differences on Sudanese issues.
