Agar Issues Instructions for the Activation of Laws Protecting Women

The Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, Malik Agar, stressed the importance of activating all laws, legislation and international agreements related to combating violence against women and protecting them, especially in areas of displacement and refugee camps, and providing the necessary social and psychological support to enhance security and protection for women.

In a meeting in his office on Tuesday with the General Director of the Unit to Combat Violence against Women, Salima Ishaq, he stressed the need to eliminate all forms of violence against women, change preconceptions and behaviour, and raise the level of awareness in societies.

Agar pointed out the importance of activating the role of organisations and institutions related to combating violence against women, preserving their rights, and protecting them from random killings, torture, sexual violence, and forced marriage, pointing to the necessity of maintaining their percentage in work and supporting working and productive women in all regions of Sudan.

In a press statement following the meeting, Dr Salima Ishaq reviewed the tasks of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women, its responsibility and its role in protecting women and girls in areas of active conflict and areas of displacement.

She stressed the importance of integrating roles and joint coordination between official and popular bodies to protect women and girls from direct violations in areas of conflict and displacement, who are exposed to exploitation while providing services.
