The US State Department said on Thursday that the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, is in the African continent on a 12-day tour that includes Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti, to discuss common regional challenges.
The ministry said in a statement that Hammer will meet in Nairobi with Kenyan officials to discuss common regional challenges.
In Addis Ababa, the US special envoy will meet with African Union officials, Ethiopian officials and the interim regional administration of Tigray region regarding the implementation of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and the urgent need to resolve outstanding issues through political dialogue and avoid a return to conflict.
He will also discuss dialogue to end violence in the Amhara and Oromia regions and the need to investigate reports of human rights violations.
In Djibouti – according to the statement – the American diplomat will hold consultations on regional and security issues with Djiboutian government officials.
