Sudanese Refugees’ Situation Tops Mission Meeting in Addis with UNHCR

Addis Ababa – almogagig

A delegation from the Sudanese diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa, headed by Ambassador Al-Zain Ibrahim, held a meeting today, on Tuesday, with Andrew Ambogori, the representative of the UNHCR in Ethiopia, in the presence of the protection officer at the commission.

During the meeting, the delegation held an extensive video conference with the UNHCR field representative, who supervises the Olala and Komer camps in the Amhara region, about the overall situation of Sudanese refugees in terms of security, shelter, food and medicine.

The Sudanese ambassador conveyed to the representatives of the UNHCR the decision of the Sudanese Emergency Committee, headed by the Minister of Finance, to respond to the desire of Sudanese refugees who wish to return to their homeland, and to discuss the necessary arrangements for that.

The Sudanese government had formed a humanitarian emergency committee after some refugees announced their desire to return voluntarily.

Today’s meeting also stressed the need to protect refugees, care for vulnerable groups and combat diseases in the fall.
