Al-Burhan Briefs the World Council of Churches Delegation on Peace Efforts

The Transitional Sovereignty Council President and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received in Port Sudan a delegation from the World Council of Churches today, headed by Bishop Rufus Okikiolaolu, where he briefed them on the efforts of the authorities in Sudan to bring peace to the country.

Bishop Rufus said in a press statement after the meeting that the delegation provided enlightenment to the President of the Council about their visit to Sudan and their assessment of the situation of churches in the country after the attacks they were subjected to by the Rapid Support rebels, stressing the solidarity of the World Council of Churches with Sudan and its people in the face of the challenges it is exposed to targeting its security and stability.

Bishop Rufus expressed his hope that security and peace would prevail in Africa in general and Sudan in particular.

The head of the delegation explained that they, as a council of churches, are ready to provide all aid and support to the Sudanese people in order to reach peace.

It is noteworthy that the delegation included representatives of the Fellowship of the Council of Churches in the Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa and the All African Conference of Churches, in addition to representatives of a number of organizations working in the humanitarian field.
