Almohagig Displays the Magnitude of Destruction Caused to the National Theatre as the RSF Turned it into an “Operations Theater”

almohagig – Omdurman

Almohagig obtained photos and video clips showing the extent of the destruction and devastation that was caused to the National Theater in Omdurman. The theatre, which overlooks Nile Street, was one of the sites that flourished with cultural activity before the war. However, the Rapid Support Militia turned it into a military barracks and an “operations theatre”.

It was clear that Rapid Support used the theatre buildings in its military operations. The video clips showed the puppet of the play (The Wishing Bird) lying on the ground while the stage, lighting equipment, computer, makeup, curtains, and costumes were destroyed.

The cars inside the famous art buildings were also looted, and the administration offices were destroyed. Many important contents were not found. The audience appeared in silence and neglect, and the seats and doors were covered in dust and echo while the remains of projectiles were scattered everywhere.

Many theatre people have called on those concerned to save the father of the arts and demanded the rehabilitation of the National Theater so that it can play its role in reviving the spirit of the nation, interacting with national issues, and confirming the return of life to normal in the city, especially since the National Theater is one of the most prominent landmarks of the city of Omdurman. It was opened in 1959 by former President Ibrahim Abboud.
