The High Committee for Emergencies and Crisis Management in Khartoum State has taken practical steps to arrange the situation in the old neighbourhoods of Omdurman and restore basic services in preparation for the return of residents.

Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza checked with the relevant authorities on the operations of covering and transferring bodies scattered in the streets, public and private facilities, markets, and residential neighbourhoods. An emergency meeting held on Thursday, chaired by the governor, stressed the need for the Water Corporation and Electricity Authority to double their efforts to restore the two essential services of water and electricity, repair the wires, and provide transformers to avoid frequent cuts.

The Water Corporation conducted field inspections to identify the needs of water stations in preparation for addressing faults and restoring operations. The Director of the Water Corporation briefed the meeting on the results of his meetings with the Red Cross and UNICEF to support the water sector. At the meeting, we learned that the Red Cross had agreed to provide support totalling $1,120,000 to 12 pumping stations and spare parts for the power stations. UNICEF contributed $297,000 to provide water purification materials and also agreed to contribute to the reactivation of the Beit Al-Mal water station.

Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza inaugurated today a branch of the Omdurman National Bank on Wadi Street in Karary locality, in the presence of the commander of Wadi Seidna Military Area, Brigadier Ibrahim Al-Jalab, and a number of area leaders.
