Foreign Minister Exclusively Discloses to Almohagig Updates on the Libyan Initiative

The acting Foreign Minister, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq, disclosed updates on the Libyan initiative to resolve the conflict in Sudan.

Al-Sadiq stated that the Sudanese government has not received any details regarding the Libyan initiative. In an extraordinary statement to the Investigator, he confirmed that Libya expressed during the recent visit of the Head of the Sovereignty Council to Tripoli its desire to launch an initiative to achieve peace in Sudan and end the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. However, the Libyan effort is still in the idea stage.

Al-Sadiq pointed out that there are currently movements between Tripoli and Ankara to develop and coordinate efforts, but we have not yet received any outlines of the initiative. Al-Sadiq reiterated Sudan’s commitment to the Jeddah platform and stressed that it is the only platform for negotiations with the militia. Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister revealed movements and contacts being made by the African Union following the recent high-level visit of its delegation to Sudan. He indicated that the high-level committee is still gathering information and contacting parties involved in the political process in Sudan, both inside and outside the country, before taking any step or initiative that forms the basis for the peaceful process in Sudan.
