Minawi from Cairo: the biggest mistake is to say that the war is against Islamists, and if we exclude them, there will be no peace

Cairo – Almohagig

Mani Arkoo Minawi, leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement and governor of Darfur, emphasized in an open meeting in Cairo that the biggest mistake in the war is the saying that it is against Islamists. He stated that despite some evidence of the presence of Islamists in the war, it is not a war against Islamists. He added that Sudan must encompass all its existing diversity, and if Islamists are excluded, peace will not come. He noted that the division and polarisation have increased due to the lack of acceptance of each other, leading to more hatred than necessary. Manawi stressed that everyone must be included in the transitional period, and no one should be excluded. He stated that while those who have committed crimes can be prosecuted, complete exclusion is difficult. He emphasised the need for reconciliation and tolerance, as well as self-criticism. He said there must be a roadmap for ending the war and building the state afterwards. He also stated that it is not possible to say no to war and support the other party, calling it political nonsense. He pointed out that there is an international community divided over Sudan, with some supporting the army and others supporting the Rapid Support Forces shyly. He stressed the need to establish a post-war Sudan and that the security institutions should be restructured into a single military institution after the ceasefire, followed by reform in the military institution. He mentioned that there were opportunistic international relations in Sudan, stating that some countries conditioned our acceptance of specific frameworks for our relationship with them to be good.
