Cairo – AlMohagig: Sabah Mousa

Mohamed Hamouda, the official spokesman for the Libyan government, confirmed that his government’s contacts with Sudan are not to impose a specific mechanism to resolve the Sudanese crisis, and that Tripoli believes that the solution in Sudan is Sudanese.

Hamouda said in exclusive statements to AlMohagig, “Our role in Sudan is helpful and positive in achieving calm in the situation”, adding that the Libyan government will continue with the conflicting parties in Sudan in order to enhance cooperation that would contribute to the stability of the region, stressing that the Libyan government’s positions are firm. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Sudan.

Hamouda explained that his country’s government’s firm position is a ceasefire and Sudanese territorial integrity. He said that Libya has not had any interference in the crisis since its beginning, and we want this current intervention to bring the viewpoints closer between the two parties. He also explained that Al-Burhan’s visit to Tripoli (Monday) is the first. It is one of its kind, after Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dabaiba invited him, and he continued, this came to hear directly from the Sudanese parties in order to reach a peaceful solution that leads to support for Sudan, as a complement to Libya’s positive efforts regarding the humanitarian crisis and the large displacement of Sudanese.

The official spokesman revealed that the number of those who took refuge in Libya to escape the war in Sudan is about 30 thousand refugees, and he said that a large number of them are in the city of Kufra, adding that there is cooperation and support with them, starting with the entry of Sudanese without a visa into the Libyan territories, until their humanitarian, health, educational and financial support, stating that alll fields are covered.

He continued, “We extend a helping hand to all Libyan regions that receive Sudanese, and we expect to receive larger numbers,” indicating that Dabaiba had telephoned the Rapid Support Commander, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, “Hemedti,” and said, “We expect a visit by Hemedti to Tripoli in the coming days,” noting that there is no Libyan plan to collect proof. Hemedti is in Tripoli, pointing out that his government can create initiatives and economic partnerships with Sudan to overcome the humanitarian conditions there.

He said that we believe in emphasizing the outcomes of the Jeddah Initiative for a solution in Sudan, as stated by the Prime Minister in his meeting with Al-Burhan.

Commenting on what Tripoli could offer to the Sudanese crisis outside the scope of the initiative of Sudan’s neighboring countries, the official spokesman for the Libyan government refrained from commenting, and said, “I cannot comment here on initiatives that the Prime Minister did not address, and on the infiltration of large numbers from the Libyan borders to participate in the war.” In Sudan with the Rapid Support Forces, Hamouda said that securing the borders and joint cooperation between neighboring countries can control this infiltration.
