The Sudanese government has confirmed its readiness for a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in the country. Ambassador Ali al-Sadiq, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that he had confirmed this to many heads of government and delegations he met on the sidelines of the recent Non-Aligned Movement summit held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
He emphasised that the Sudanese government is open to any political solution that restores democratic life to the country and establishes a transitional period culminating in general elections, through which power will be handed over to the winning parties to assume governance.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs further explained in an exclusive statement to Al Muhaggig that he took advantage of his presence at the summit, leading the Sudanese delegation, to provide a comprehensive explanation to the leaders and participating heads of the extent of the violations and conspiracies that Sudan has been subjected to. He clarified during the meetings what has been happening in Sudan and the nature of the attacks that the state and its citizens have endured.
He pointed out that “We have outlined the extent of the violations that have occurred, including looting, theft, occupation of people’s homes, forced displacement, rape, human trafficking, and many other crimes that numerous countries and international human rights organisations have condemned.” He also added, “We have also assured the leaders that Sudan, despite the significant attacks it has faced, is open to any political solution that ends the war.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs headed the Sudanese delegation at both the Non-Aligned Movement summit and the South-South summit, which were recently held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. The latter summit primarily focused on economic cooperation among the South-South countries in the fields of economy, trade, technology, and education, with the aim of strengthening relations among these nations and increasing trade exchanges. The South-South bloc, consisting of over 120 countries out of 190 United Nations member states, is the largest coalition within the United Nations.
