Sudan informs the UN of Humanitarian Aid Entry Points

Port Sudan – AlMohagig

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today stated that the Sudanese government, in fulfilment of its obligations towards its citizens in various parts of the country, has informed the United Nations of the government’s approval to use the Tiné-Chad crossing to El Fasher for the entry of specified humanitarian aid, following the agreement on the technical aspects between the Sudanese and Chadian governments and following Security Council Resolution 1591.

The statement added that the Sudanese government has also conveyed its approval for the use of other routes to deliver humanitarian aid, including the Port Sudan-Atbara-Milit-Malit route to El Fasher, a route from the Arab Republic of Egypt via the Red Sea to Port Sudan, a route via the Wadi Halfa-Dongola crossing, and a route from the Republic of South Sudan using river and road transport from Renk to Kosti.

The Sudanese government has also agreed to use the airports of El Fasher, Kadugli, and Al-Abiad in the event of disruptions in access via land routes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a scathing attack in its statement against the Rapid Support Forces militia, accusing it of reneging on the agreements and understandings signed in May and November of last year, through the Jeddah platform, regarding facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudanese in various needy areas.

The statement blamed the Rapid Support Forces militia for sabotaging the United Nations’ arrangements and humanitarian organisations’ efforts to reach those in need by attacking and occupying Wad Madani city, looting food stores in Al-Jazira state, and preventing the state’s residents from engaging in their agricultural activities, which were an important aspect of food security for Sudanese.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitments and obligations to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid to the affected and needy throughout the country through ports, crossings, and airports within the national borders. It confirmed that the experience since the outbreak of the rebellion has proven that the government has fulfilled all the requirements of humanitarian work, thus averting a famine catastrophe in the country in cooperation with international organisations and partners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation to the sisterly and friendly countries, UN agencies, and international partners for their humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
