Sudanese Minister: We have only utilised 20 per cent of oil reserves

Sudanese Minister of Energy and Oil Muhyiddin Naim stated that “his country has only utilized 20 per cent of its known oil reserves for energy generation.”

The minister affirmed during his speech at the special session of the World Economic Forum on Global Cooperation, Growth, and Energy for Development, held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, from April 28 to 29, that Sudan’s efforts to maximise production due to rising demand.

Naim revealed the presence of significant oil reserves in the north of the country, indicating that “the major challenge we face now is cooperation with old or new players everywhere.”

He pointed out that Sudan has no political problems with any country, adding that the Ministry of Energy and Minerals merger aims to maximise the use of the country’s gold resources.

Naim disclosed that Sudan’s current energy production meets 40 per cent of its needs, noting initiatives in solar, thermal, and wind energy for electricity generation.

The minister announced the presence of gas fields in the Red Sea, and that power plants are being converted to operate on gas to make greater use of this source.
