Swedish Immigration Court Approves the Final Deportation of Quran Burner

Stockholm: AlMohagig

The Swedish Immigration Court has endorsed the decision to deport the Iraqi refugee Sulwan Momika, who burned copies of the Quran multiple times in the capital, Stockholm, last year.

Russia Today’s Arabic website cited Sweden’s Ekot radio, reporting that the Immigration Court rejected Momika’s appeal and approved the Migration Agency’s decision to deport him from the country.

The court explained that Momika provided false information regarding his residence permit application, leading to the approval of his deportation.

On June 28, Momika stomped on a copy of the Quran, inserted pieces of pork into it, and burned several pages in front of the largest mosque in Stockholm on the first day of Eid al-Adha, under police protection. This was followed by similar incidents later, sparking anger and protests from Muslims worldwide, condemning the heinous act.

In October 2023, the Migration Agency did not extend Momika’s residence permit, but he remained in Sweden, taking into consideration the Convention against Torture.
